A Place Set Apart for Therapy

There can be something valuable about leaving your usual surroundings and entering a space intended solely for reflection. In the therapy room, everyday roles and responsibilities can be set aside for a while, allowing you to turn your attention towards what is happening within you.

For some people sitting together in the same room can make it easier to feel present, build trust and explore emotions that may be difficult to express elsewhere. The therapy room becomes a space where you do not need to manage other people’s needs, appear composed or have everything figured out before you begin.

Coast Counselling provides confidential in-person counselling for individuals and couples at The Adelphi, near City Hall MRT in central Singapore.

Benefits of in-person counselling

A more immediate human connection

Being in the same room can help the therapeutic relationship feel more natural and personal. For some people, this makes it easier to build trust and gradually become more open.

Communication beyond words

Facial expressions, posture, pauses and changes in emotion can communicate experiences that are difficult to explain. Noticing these cues can help us understand more fully what may be happening beneath the surface.

Support during difficult moments

Counselling may bring up grief, fear, anger, shame or painful memories. Having your counsellor physically present might help you feel more grounded while approaching these experiences at a manageable pace.

A private place to speak freely

A confidential therapy room allows you to talk without worrying about interruptions or being overheard. This can be particularly important when discussing sensitive personal, family or relationship concerns.

Distance from everyday roles

Outside the therapy room, you may be focused on being a parent, partner, employee or caregiver. In-person counselling gives you time away from these roles, allowing your own thoughts, feelings and needs to receive attention.

Fewer distractions

A setting created specifically for counselling makes it easier to remain present. Without household tasks, notifications or work demands competing for your attention, you can engage more fully with the session.

A clear beginning and end

Travelling to your appointment creates a natural transition into therapy, while the journey afterwards gives you time to reflect before returning to your day. This separation can help the session feel contained rather than absorbed into your usual routine.

A shared space for couples

For couples, meeting in person allows both partners to participate in the same neutral environment. It also helps me observe how you respond to one another and guide difficult conversations as they unfold.

Who may benefit from in-person counselling?

In-person counselling may be particularly suitable if you:

  • Feel more comfortable connecting with someone face to face

  • Value the presence and reassurance of another person in the room

  • Find it difficult to express emotions through words alone

  • Want a calm, private space away from home or work

  • Benefit from having clear boundaries around therapeutic time

  • Find a change of environment helpful for reflection

  • Want to explore relationship concerns with your partner physically present

Individual counselling
in person

Individual in-person counselling provides one-to-one  support face-to-face for concerns such as anxiety, stress, grief, self-esteem difficulties, relationship problems, traumatic experiences and major life transitions.

Sessions offer space to explore what may be happening beneath the surface, recognise patterns influencing your emotions and relationships, and develop ways of responding that feel more helpful. My approach is collaborative, combining careful listening and empathy with perspective, practical support and gentle challenge when it may help you move towards change.

Couples counselling
in person

In-person couples counselling gives both partners a neutral space where they can speak openly and feel heard. Being together in the room allows us to notice the interaction between you, slow down difficult conversations and understand the patterns that lead to conflict or disconnection.

Couples counselling at Coast Counselling is offered exclusively in person. I work with couples at different stages of their relationships, including married and unmarried partners, same-sex couples and couples from different cultural backgrounds.
